Summer is well and truly underway, and that means for most, BBQ’s, beach days and summer holidays are just around the corner. One go-to look that girls up and down the country are trying to achieve this season, is the no fuss beach waves style. Adored by both red-carpet stars and the everyday beauty enthusiast, beach waves are a low-maintenance style suitable for any occasion. That said, perfecting those loose curls can be a daunting task, so here at Central Studio we’ve created a few step-by-step guides of the different ways you can accomplish the ideal style as well as some general tips on creating those fabulous waves.

The Low-Bun-Air-Dry

One great way to achieve the Malibu look with minimal effort, is to incorporate a tactical air dry into your beauty routine. Wash your hair as you normally would, and then brush through to eliminate any knots, finding your natural parting along the way. Separate your hair into the two sides. With your fore finger, take one side of your hair and twist it round your finger until you get to your scalp, and pin it into place with a few bobby pins. Follow suit with the other side, and if you have a fringe that can’t reach the bun, use your finger to twist it round several times. Once your hair has dried naturally, carefully remove the pins and let your hair loose, and tousle your hair into a style you are happy with. This is the best way to get natural-looking waves without causing any damage to your hair, although it does require somewhat of a questionable style while you wait for your hair to dry!

With Curling Tongs

You can achieve fabulous curls with that extra bit of oomph via your trusty curling tongs. Begin by washing your hair, but use conditioner sparingly so as not to weigh down the hair too much. Towel dry, and spritz with salt-spray to optimise the natural style of the waves. Let your hair dry naturally for that extra bit of authenticity, or for a more voluminous look, blow dry your locks roughly. Turn on your tong and section the hair in varying sizes. Wrap these parts around the tong and hold for 3-5 seconds. Once your hair has been curled, leave the spirals tight for a boho glamour look, or run your fingers through them to blend for a casual approach. Add some hair spray, and you’ll be ready for anything!

Au Natural

The ultimate natural beach waves take minimal effort, and can get you A-list style hair in minutes! Wash your hair, towel dry, and then work in a product such as mousse or a salt spray to make your locks easy to tame and manipulate. Use your hands to scrunch your hair as much as you see fit, bringing several sections of hair up towards the scalp at a time. Thin or fine hair might benefit from holding the scrunch for several seconds, furthering the extent of the wave. If you have a diffuser, use that to blow dry your hair for a bit of extra oomph. Tousle your waves until they sit in a position you are happy with et voila, you’re ready to go!
