As this year’s royal wedding draws ever-closer (19th May 2018 FYI) the anticipation of seeing the choice of dress, colour scheme and of course hairstyle is getting almost too much to bear! Thank goodness we’ve only got a few more weeks to wait until we can gaze in envy at what we can only hope will be a stunningly stylish, elegant and glamorous overall look from the gorgeous Meghan Markle! Speculations so far have named the messy bun, half-up, half-down and ‘the red carpet’, which entails sleek waves with plenty of bottom-heavy volume. In preparation for the big reveal, we thought we would look back on some of the previous hairstyles that have been worn by royalty in past weddings, and who knows, maybe it’ll give you some inspiration for your own wedding ‘do.
Will the Kate Middleton effect be an influence on Meghan Markle? This classic style looked stunning on the bride back in 2011, with a soft wave underneath Kate’s glam tiara and veil combo. This took the strands off her face and allowed her skin to glow with happiness on her big day. The addition of delicate plaits and braids adds detail to the crown and makes an Instagram worthy photo from every angle. A low-maintenance and simplistic look, this ‘do is perfect for those seeking an elegant and understated hairstyle.
Queen Elizabeth II looked stunning with a voluminous, yet perfectly places set of curls, finishing at the shoulder, back in 1947. The Queen’s wedding was and still is iconic, and although it took place in a time of austerity, she looked gorgeous none-the-less. This style can be brought right up to date with the addition of a few floral accessories or a touch of sparkle. A curl around the face can soften the features and create a wonderfully feminine finish that complements every dress neckline.
A bun has many variations, and has proved time and time again to be a firm favourite with brides over the years. The most iconic member of royalty to pick this beautiful bun for her big day was Grace Kelly, the Princess of Monaco. With a sleek finish on the sides and interest added into the texture of the bun this is a fantastic style for a wedding. With one of Meghan’s favourite hairstyles being that of the messy bun, we think that this is a strong contender for her big day!
A bob with a simple curl to the ends has been a firm favourite amongst royalty, including with Diana, Princess of Wales and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece. Both of these gorgeous ladies finished their looks with a classic tiara and veil, choosing to add detail in accessories, rather than in a complex style.
